China’s Zhejiang University Press, together with Italian publishing house Libreria Editrice Cafoscarina, unveiled the Italian edition of The Travels of Xu Xiake at the launch ceremony for its Italian office in Florence on Monday.
Written by Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) geographer and travel writer Xu Hongzu – literary name Xiake – the book includes Xu’s travel logs and records during his 34-year journey across China. The book is one of China’s earliest and most detailed travel records and is also among the world’s first books to detail and explore the origins of limestone karst formations.
The Italian translation was led by famous sinologist Professor Giorgio Casacchia.
